This week’s reviews feature Companion, a satirical dark comedy with a dash of sci-fi, the Henry Danger feature-length film, and This Is the Tom Green Documentary, about the eponymous comedian.
Companion
Comedy/Sci-Fi | 1h 37m | R | Theaters
Director: Drew Hancock
Cast: Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, and Lukas Gage
What’s It About? Chaos ensues during a weekend getaway when an artificial human companion goes haywire.
Do You Recommend It? Yes… At times, Companion flirts with brilliance. Though it takes a while to gain momentum, once it does, we’re treated to a series of clever twists and unexpected surprises.
Sophie Thatcher delivers a deliciously mischievous performance that makes us root for her—she’s officially a bona fide scream queen. Quaid’s usual awkward, neurotic persona adds an extra layer of humor.
However, the film loses steam toward the end, becoming a tad preachy and predictable. While there are echoes of The Stepford Wives (1975), I wish Companion had pushed its concept as far as that film did.

Henry Danger: The Movie
Adventure | 1h 26m | TV-PG | Paramount+
Director: Joe Menendez
Cast: Jace Norman, Sean Ryan Fox, and Ella Anderson
What’s It About? Missy Martin, a superfan of Kid Danger from the Henry Danger TV show, steals a thingamajig that opens portals to alternate realities, stranding both her and Kid Danger. Now, they must find their way back—or risk being trapped forever.
Do You Recommend It? No… Strictly for fans of the series, Kid Danger’s first full-length adventure boasts enough clever bits to keep casual viewers mildly engaged. But even at less than 90 minutes, it drags.
Some of the visual effects pop, and there’s a self-referential, self-parodying attitude that makes it all innocuous fun. However, far too many scenes feel too constrained, too stagy—which is unsurprising, given the television roots of the series.
It helps that most of the cast seems to be having fun. The two standouts are Sean Ryan Fox, as Jasper Dunlop, Kid’s best friend who has the ability to fight in his sleep while reciting Spanish, and Frankie Grande, as the over-the-top pop sensation Frankini.

This Is the Tom Green Documentary
Documentary | 1h 37m | R | Prime
Director: Alex Kahuam
Featuring: Tom Green, Mary Jane Green, and Phil Giroux
What’s It About? We check in with comedian Tom Green after a few years away from the limelight, as he reminisces about his rise to stardom from his Canadian farm.
Do You Recommend It? Yes… If you’re of a certain age, Tom Green was a staple of your pop culture diet. I remember him as one of my high school friends’ patron saints, alongside Johnny Knoxville and Tony Hawk (it was the early 2000s, after all).
Green, the embodiment of id and irreverence, takes us on a journey through his creative process. Using clips from The Tom Green Show, the documentary illustrates how his wild antics changed the way television was made. Some of the bits have aged quiet well.
There isn’t a lot of deep insight here, but it’s an enjoyable and nostalgic trip down memory lane with one of the pioneers of alternative television. So many YouTube and TikTok influencers owe their infamy and livelihoods to Green—for better or worse.

I'm seeing Companion tomorrow night. Keen to see where they go with it since I haven't enjoyed other AI horrors much
